Helping a South American technology and digital education company break into the African market
What the employer was looking for
Our client, a South American technology and digital education company, was in the process of expanding its budding African operations. Their first site was in Rwanda and their second in Kenya, which was where they were looking to hire a Senior Business Development Manager to lead their business-to-government sales strategies.
They needed someone who had experience collaborating with government institutions and officials at the highest levels, who would bring with them a strong network of regional contacts. Ideally they would have either a business-related or engineering degree, as well as practical experience growing companies in the tech industry. The employer was also keen for the successful candidate to be a Kenyan national.
How we approached the challenge
We began by mapping the market and identifying the key players in our client’s industry, with a focus on the sales leaders developing their B2G strategies. After making a long list of potential candidates, we made our approaches through LinkedIn messaging, referrals, and personal introductions.
We then spoke to every potential candidate in great detail, assessing their suitability for and interest in the role. Just three weeks after taking the brief, we were able to deliver a shortlist of five candidates to our client – all of which were invited to start the interview process.
The success of the partnership
After four rounds of interviews, the client was ready to make an offer to the successful candidate. The sensitive nature of their industry meant they needed detailed background checks on their chosen candidate – but we were able to manage that process for them in partnership with a local firm, and once the checks were all approved the candidate accepted their offer.
He has now passed his probation period and is enjoying great success in the role. Our client was so impressed with the quality of candidates we presented, they have continued to partner with us and we have since helped them fill four further vacancies.
